Melaleuca huegelii

Common name: Chenille Honeymyrtle

Meaning of name:

Melaleuca is from the Greek words melas, meaning black, and leucos, meaning white. It refers to the black trunk and white branches of some Asian species. Huegelii honours Carl Alexander Anselm, Baron von Hugel (1796 – 1870), an Austrian traveller and naturalist who visited the Swan River and King George Sound in 1833-34.

Distribution:

Occurs along the western coast of southern Western Australia.

Description:

A large shrub to small tree to 5 metres tall. The white flowers are produced from September to January.
