Scientific name: Rhipidura leucophrys
Rhipidura is from the Greek words rhipis or rhipidos, meaning fan, and ura, meaning tail. Leucophrys is from the Greek words leucos, meaning white, and phrys, meaning brow.

Widespread across Australia.
Up to 21 centimetres long with a wingspan of 31 centimetres.
The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 601 km. The oldest bird recorded was still alive when its band was read in March 1974, 9 years 4.5 months after being banded (information as at 20 June 2012).
