Lalage is a classical girl’s name. The meaning of tricolor, as it applies to this species, is not known.

Koomolkolong (koom’awl’caw’lawng).

Widespread throughout mainland Australia.

Up to 19.5 centimetres long with a wingspan of 31.5 centimetres.

The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 2km. The oldest bird recorded was still alive when its band was read in July 1967, 3 years 0.9 months after being banded (information as at 20 June 2012).
