







Watsonia meriana var. meriana
Common name: Watsonia
Watsonia honours Sir William Watson (1715 – 1787), an English student of electricity, apothecary, physician and botanist. Meriana honours Maria Sybilla Merian (1647 – 1717), a German natural history artist and scientist.
Occurs in the southwest of Western Australia. Also occurs in south eastern Australia.
A bulb that grows to 1.5 metres tall. The orange, white, pink or red flowers are produced during October and November.
This species is originally from South Africa.
