Washingtonia is named after George Washington, the first President of the USA. The meaning of robusta is not known.

Distribution:

This is a garden escapee that is found around settled areas.

Description:

A palm tree to 30 metres tall with leaves up to 1 metre in diameter.

Notes:

This species is originally from south western United States of America and Mexico.
