Scientific name: Daphoenositta chrysoptera
The meaning of Daphoenositta is not known. Chrysoptera is from the Greek words chrysos, meaning golden, and pteron, meaning wing.

Widespread in mainland Australia.
Up to 14 centimetres long with a 27 centimetre wingspan.
The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 2 km. The oldest bird recorded was still alive when its band was read in May 1986, 6 years 11 months after being banded (information as at 21 June 2012).
