Uresiphita ornithopteralis
Common name: Tree Lucerne Moth
Unknown.
This caterpillar has been reported across Australia but is absent from the arid interior.
This caterpillar was approximately 40 millimetres long. It eats species of Hovea.
The moth that this caterpillar turns into has a wing length (nose to wing tip) of approximately 20 millimetres.
The moth has two forms – an eastern and western form. The western form is as appears on this page. The eastern form has brown forewings rather than the black and white of the western form.
We have photographed both the caterpillar and the moth in July.
