Scientific name: Ninox boobook
The meaning of this bird’s name is not known.
Koorkoda (caw’caw’da).
Widespread throughout Australia.
Up to 35 centimetres long with a wingspan up to 82 centimetres.
The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 378km. The oldest bird recorded was still alive when its band was read in December 2009, 15 years 11.1 months after being banded (information as at 20 June 2012).
