Singing Honeyeater

Gavicalis is an anagram of the genus name Cavigalis assigned to honeyeaters by Iredale in 1956. Virescens is a Latin word meaning greenish.

Dooromdorom (door’awm’door’awm).

Widespread across Australia but largely absent from the wetter east coast and northern Queensland.

Up to 19 centimetres long with a 25 centimetre wingspan.

The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 153 km. The oldest bird recorded was still alive when its band was read in September 2014, 12 years after being banded (information as at 12 July 2017).
