Sarcophaga is from the Greek words sarco, meaning flesh, and phage, meaning eating. Aurifrons is from the Latin words aureus, meaning golden, and frontis meaning front, forehead or brow.
This fly is found across Australia.
Grey-striped Flies typically have red eyes, three dark stripes on their backs and a chequered pattern on their abdomens. These flies were approximately 10 millimetres long.
Females produce live maggots which are laid straight on to dung, rotting vegetation, carcasses or open wounds of living animals, including humans.
These flies were photographed in November.
