




Red-capped Parrot
Scientific name: Purpureicephalus spurius
Purpureicephalus is from the Latin words purpureus, meaning purple, and the Greek word cephale, meaning head. Spurius is a Latin word meaning false.

The Red-capped Parrot is only found in the southwest of Western Australia.
This bird is up to 38 centimetres long with a wingspan up to 48 centimetres.
The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 2 km. The oldest bird recorded was recovered 1 year 7.2 months after being banded (information as at 8 October 2023).
