Pseudoscorpiones 1

Common name: Pseudoscorpion

Meaning of name:

Unknown.

Distribution:

Unknown.

Description:

This pseudoscorpion has a body length of approximately 2 millimetres.

Notes:

This pseudoscorpion was photographed in July.

Pseudoscorpions have a pair of pincers that are capable, in many species, of delivering venom with which to kill their prey. However, they are not dangerous to humans as they are not strong enough to pierce our skin.

There are approximately 150 species found in Australia and over 3,000 found worldwide. They usually live in leaf litter and other organic debris, but, at only 2 – 8 millimetres long, are difficult to find.

Some of the photographs used for this species have been edited by FQPB.
