In Australia, this species can be found in areas of human activity, especially the south west of Western Australia.
Yellow Paper Wasps are 9 – 13 millimetres long and have black and yellow markings.
This wasp is native to Europe, North Africa and Asia. It has been introduced to Australia and many other parts of the world.
They build their hanging nests from plant fibres that have been chewed to a papier mache consistency.
They are similar to European Wasps, Vespula germanica. Yellow Paper Wasps have orange antennae and fly with legs hanging down whereas European Wasps have black antennae and fly with legs held close to the body.
