Cenchrus clandestinus

Common name: Kikuyu Grass

Meaning of name:

Cenchrus is from the Greek word cegchros, which is a type of millet. Clandestinus is Latin, meaning secret or hidden.

Distribution:

Occurs mainly in southern parts of Australia.

Description:

A prostrate perennial which can be used as a lawn grass. The flowers are produced from October to March.

Notes:

This species is originally from East Africa.

It was previously known as Pennisetum clandestinum.
