The Pacific Black Duck can be found throughout Australia except for the arid regions.

This duck is up to 60 centimetres long with a wingspan up to 100 centimetres.

The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 2,677 km. The oldest bird recorded was recovered 27 years 1.7 months after being banded (information as at 14 June 2012).
