Ornithopus compressus

Common name: Yellow Serradella

Meaning of name:

Ornithopus is from the Greek words ornithos, meaning bird, and pus, meaning footed. Compressus is Latin meaning pressed together, compressed or flattened.

Distribution:

Occurs in near-coastal areas of the southwest of Western Australia. Also occurs in south eastern Australia.

Description:

A prostrate annual with hairy leaflets on stems up to 30 centimetres long. It produces tiny yellow flowers from August to January.

Notes:

This species is originally from southern Europe.
