The Portuguese Millipede is native to southern Europe and was accidentally introduced to Australia. This millipede was first found in Western Australia in 1986. Since the late 1990s they have been found in other areas of the southwest of WA. They are also found in South Australia, ACT, Tasmania and Victoria.

Portuguese Millipedes are 20 millimetres to 45 millimetres long. The adults range in colour from slate-grey to black. The juveniles are light grey/brown, often with a darker stripe along each side.

We have photographed this species in February, April, July, October and November.
