Lolium rigidum

Common name: Wimmera Ryegrass

Meaning of name:

Lolium is Latin for darnel, a weed that grows among corn. Rigidum is from the Latin word rigidus, meaning hard or stiff.

Distribution:

Occurs across much of southern Australia.

Description:

A tufted annual to 1 metre tall. The flowers are produced from September to November.

Notes:

This species is originally from the Meditteranean.
