


Indian Ringneck
Scientific name: Psittacula krameri
The meanings of this bird’s names are not known.
This species is an aviary escapee. It is not found in Australia in any great numbers. It is native to India and central Africa.
This bird is up to 43 centimetres long. Male birds have a narrow black and pink collar which is absent from female and immature birds. Being a cage bird, the birds come in different colours of yellow, blue, grey, white and green.
The Indian Ringneck is rated as being highly likely to establish populations in Australia and become a pest of agriculture, the environment and public amenity. Sightings should be reported to the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development on +61 (0)8 9368 3080.
