Hypochaeris glabra

Common name: Smooth Catsear

Meaning of name:

The meaning of Hypochaeris is not known. Glabra is the feminine form of Glaber. Glaber is a Latin word meaning without hair.

Distribution:

Occurs across much of southern Australia.

Description:

Leaves are held in a basal rosette. Each leaf can be 20 centimetres long. The flowers, a dense yellow head, are held up to 1 metre high and are produced from April to November.
