Hygraula nitens

Common name: Australian Water Moth

Meaning of name:

Unknown.

Distribution:

This moth has been found across Australia. They also occur in New Zealand.

Description:

This moth has a wing length (nose to wing tip) of approximately 9 millimetres.

Notes:

The caterpillars of this moth live underwater. The larvae construct protective cases around their body from the leaves of water plants.

We have photographed this species in April and November.
