



Rock Dove
Scientific name: Columba livia
Columba is the Latin word meaning pigeon or dove. Livia is a medieval Latin variant of livida, meaning livid, bluish-gray.
An introduced species, it can be found across Australia but is more common around populated areas. The Rock Dove can now be found on every continent except Antarctica.
Up to 34 centimetres long with a 70 centimetre wingspan.
The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 481 km. The oldest bird recorded was recovered 6 years 2.7 months after being banded (information as at 15 June 2012).
