Diuris brumalis

Common name: Winter Donkey Orchid

Meaning of name:

Diuris is from the Greek words dis, meaning double, and oura, meaning tail, referring to the two hanging lateral sepals. Brumalis is a Latin word meaning wintery.

Distribution:

Lateritic and granitic soils of the Darling Range.

Description:

Brown and yellow typical Donkey Orchid shaped flowers are held up to 50 centimetres high from June to August.

Notes:

It is one of the first Donkey Orchids to flower each year.
