Cryptolaemus montrouzieri

Meaning of name:

The meaning of Cryptolaemus is not known. The species name montrouzieri honours a Marist brother and missionary, Abbe Montrouzier, who wrote an “Insect Fauna of Woodlark Island”.

Distribution:

This beetle is native to eastern Australia and has been introduced to Western Australia and around the world.

Description:

This beetle was about 5 millimetres long.

Notes:

We have photographed it in January.

This beetle is used to control mealybug (family Pseudococcidae) in orchards and greenhouse settings around the world.
