Australian Reed-warbler

Scientific name: Acrocephalus australis

Meaning of name:

Acrocephalus is from the Greek words acros, meaning high, and cephale, meaning head. Australis is Latin for southern.

Aboriginal Name:

Koordjikotji (core’chee’caw’chee).

Distribution:

Found in well-watered areas of Australia.

Description:

Up to 18 centimetres long with a 21 centimetres wingspan.

Notes:

The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 2,119 km. The oldest bird recorded was recovered 7 years 0.8 months after being banded (information as at 20 June 2012).

The photographs for this species were not taken in the reserves of interest to the FQPB.
