Schenkia australis

Common name: Spike Centaury

Meaning of name:

Schenkia is named after Joseph August von Schenk (1815 – 1891), an Austrian-born German botanist and paleobotanist. Australis is Latin for southern.

Distribution:

Found throughout Australia.

Description:

A herb that grows to approximately 30 centimetres tall. The pink flowers are borne from November to March.

Notes:

This plant was previously known as Centaurium spicatum.
