Avena barbata

Common name: Bearded Oat

Meaning of name:

Avena is Latin for wild oats. Barbata is from the Latin word barbatus, meaning bearded.

Distribution:

Reported from southern parts of Australia.

Description:

An annual to 1 metre tall. Flowers are produced from August to October.

Notes:

This species is originally from the Mediterranean region and south west Asia.
