



Australian Pelican
Scientific name: Pelecanus conspicillatus
Pelecanus is from the Greek word pelecan, meaning pelican. Conspicillatus is a Latin word meaning spectacled.
Nerimba (ne’rim’bar).
Widespread around coastal and inland waters.
Up to 1.8 metres long with a 2.5 metre wingspan.
The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 3,219 km (as at 13 June 2012). The oldest bird recorded was still alive when the band was read in March 2011, 26 years 1.4 months after being banded.
