Distribution:

Widespread across mainland Australia.

Description:

Males measure up to 55 millimetres long, females up to 85 millimetres.

Notes:

This is a common grasshopper that frequents grassed areas. If disturbed it flies a short distance and drops to the ground where it resembles a blade of grass. As it flies it makes a sound similar to crackling cellophane.

We have seen this grasshopper in most months of the year.
