Australian White IbisScientific name: Threskiornis molucca

Meaning of name: Threskiornis is from the Greek words threskos, meaning sacred, and ornis, meaning bird. Molucca refers to the bird being of the Molucca Islands.

Distribution: Found primarily in eastern and northern Australia. There is a separate population in the southwest of Western Australia.

Description: Up to 75cm long with a 125cm wingspan.

Notes:The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 3,274km. The oldest bird recorded was recovered 26 years 0.3 months after being banded (information as at 13 June 2012).
