Insects galore

While walking in the bush on 30 December 2011, we came across a grove of flowering Astartea scoparia. We could see that it was a hive of activity with the flowers providing a sought after source of nectar. Here are some of the insects we found using the flowers. There were many more insects on the bushes for which we couldn’t get photographs.

This jewel beetle is Castiarina pallidiventris.

This jewel beetle is called Castiarina anchoralis.

This cockroach is called Ellipsidion humerale.

There were many honeybees on the bushes, but this wasp was about twice their length.

This wasp's wings had a blue shine to them in the sunlight.

Ground Shield Bugs, while just as beautiful, are not jewel beetles.

Cuckoo Wasps are an iridescent blue or green colour. They lay their eggs in the nests of other wasps.
