Pacific Black DuckScientific name: Anas superciliosa

Meaning of name: Anas is Latin for duck. Superciliosa comes from the Latin word Superciliosus, meaning browed, referring to the prominent pale supercilium or eyebrow.

Aboriginal name: Yet (yet).

Distribution: The Pacific Black Duck can be found throughout Australia except for the arid regions.

Description: This duck is up to 60cm long with a wingspan up to 100cm.

Notes: The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 2,677km. The oldest bird recorded was recovered 27 years 1.7 months after being banded (information as at 14 June 2012).
