Little EgretScientific name: Ardea garzetta

Meaning of name: Ardea is Latin for heron. Garzetta is Latin for little heron.

Distribution: Regularly found in north and east Australia. There are populations around Perth and Shark Bay, and other scattered records.

Description: Up to 65cm long with a 90cm wingspan.

Notes: The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 3,293km. The oldest bird recorded was still alive when its band was read in January 1991, 2 years 1.6 months after being banded (information as at 13 June 2012).

The photographs for this species were not taken in the reserves of interest to the FQPB.
