Samolus repens

Common name: Creeping Brookweed

Meaning of name:

Samolus was the name used by Pliny for some marsh plants. Repens is a Latin word meaning prostrate or creeping.

Distribution:

This species is mainly found near the coast in southern Western Australia but can be found inland, near water, in northern areas of WA. It has also been reported from most other states of Australia.

Description:

A tufted plant to 60 centimetres tall that spreads via stolons.

Notes:

This species has been introduced to our reserves. This has occurred as part of a revegetation project, especially if a change to the soil profile has been made – for example, around a created wetland.
