Ipomoea cairica

Common name: Coast Morning Glory

Meaning of name:

Ipomoea is from the Greek words ipos, being a type of worm, and homoios, meaning resembling. Cairica is from the Latin word cairicus, meaning of or from Cairo, Egypt.

Distribution:

Occurs in coastal areas of Australia. Also occurs inland in eastern Australia.

Description:

A climber with stems many metres long. The purple flowers are produced for most of the year.

Notes:

This species is originally from the tropical areas of Asia and Africa.
