Spotless Crake
Scientific name: Zapornia tabuensis
The meaning of Zapornia is not known. Tabuensis means relating to Tonga.
Warradja (wor’ra’cha).
Found in coastal areas of the south-west and south-east of Australia. Scattered populations are found elsewhere.
Up to 20 centimetres long with 29 centimetre wingspan.
The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 5 km. The oldest bird recorded was still alive when its band was read in September 1992, 3 years 5.2 months after being banded (information as at 15 June 2012).
The photographs for this species were not taken in the reserves of interest to the FQPB.
