Australian Wood Duck
Scientific name: Chenonetta jubata
Maranganna (mar’ang’an’nar).
There are two populations in Australia, east and west. They are separated by the arid zone along the Western Australia border with South Australia and the Northern Territory.
Up to 48 centimetres long with an 80 centimetre wingspan.
The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 1,720 km. The oldest bird recorded was recovered 9 years 1.3 months after being banded (information as at 14 June 2012).
