Musk Duck

Scientific name: Biziura lobata

Meaning of name:

The meaning of Biziura is not known. Lobata is from the Latin word lobatus, meaning lobed.

Aboriginal Name:

Kodara (caw’da’ra).

Distribution:

Found in the south west and south east of Australia. Can be found in other areas on occasion.

Description:

Up to 66 centimetres long with an 87 centimetre wingspan.

Notes:

The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 87 km. The oldest bird recorded was still alive when its band was read in April 1997, 6 years 2.6 months after being banded (information as at 14 June 2012).
