




Little Corella
Scientific name: Cacatua sanguinea
Cacatua is based on the Malay word katatua, meaning cockatoo. Sanguinea is from the Latin word sanguineus, meaning blood-stained.
Djayarra (cha’yar’ra).
Widespread across Australia but less common in the arid interior.
Up to 40 centimetres long with a 100 centimetre wingspan.
The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 115 km. The oldest bird recorded was recovered 10 years 10.9 months after being banded (information as at 16 January 2018).
The photographs for this species were not taken in the reserves of interest to the FQPB.
