Valanga irregularisCommon name: Giant Valanga
Distribution: Found in the moister, warm areas of eastern, northern and Western Australia.
Description: This grasshopper grows to 87 millimetres long, has black antennae and black-tipped red spines on its legs.
Notes: It is usually solitary but, because of its size, can cause considerable damage.
We have photographed this grasshopper in August.
