Meaning of name: Thelymitra is from the Greek words thelys, meaning female, and mitra, meaning cap, referring to the hooded column. The column is an organ combining the stamens and style of the flower. Macrophylla is from the Greek macros, meaning large or long, and phyllon, meaning leaf.

Distribution: Occurs between Northam and Israelite Bay.

Description: Up to 20 blue to pink flowers are held up to 60cm high between August and November. The single thick leathery leaf can be 25cm long.
