Spotted DoveScientific name: Spilopelia chinensis

Meaning of name: Spilopelia is from the Greek words spilos meaning spot and peleia meaning dove. Chinensis means from China.

Distribution: Established in the south-west, south and east of Australia.

Description: Up to 33cm long with a wingspan of 46cm.

Notes: This bird is native to India, China and Indonesia.

The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 19km. The oldest bird recorded was recovered 9 years 10.3 months after being banded (information as at 15 June 2012).
