Lomandra nigricans
Meaning of name: Lomandra is from the Greek words loma, meaning the border of a robe, and andros, meaning man. It refers to the border of the anthers in some species. Nigricans is from the Latin word niger, meaning black. Botanically it refers to specimens which become black or blackish when dried.
Distribution: Occurs from Perth to east of Israelite Bay.
Description: A tufted plant to 68 centimetres tall. The flowers are borne on a branching stem up to the height of the leaves. The flowers are white with purple markings, borne from May to August.
Notes: Lomandra have distinct male and female plants.
