GalahScientific name: Eolophus roseicapilla

Meaning of name: The meaning of Eolophus is not known. Roseicapilla is from the Latin words roseus, meaning rosy, and capillus, meaning capped.

Aboriginal name: Biako (bee’are’co).

Distribution: The Galah is found across most of Australia.

Description: The Galah is 35cm long with a 75cm wingspan.

Notes: The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 581km. The oldest bird recorded was recovered 27 years 2.9 months after being banded (information as at 20 June 2012).
