Meaning of name: Austrostipa is from the Latin words austro, meaning southern, and stipa, meaning fibre. Semibarbata is from the Latin words semi, meaning half, and barbatus, meaning bearded.

Distribution: Occurs from Perth to Albany.

Remarks: A tufted perennial to 60 centimetres tall. Flowers appear from August to November.
