Australian HobbyScientific name: Falco longipennis

Meaning of name: Falco is Latin for falcon. Longipennis is from the Latin words longus, meaning long, and penna, meaning feather.

Aboriginal name: Wowo (wore’awe).

Distribution: Widespread across Australia.

Description: Up to 36cm long with a 90cm wingspan.

Notes: The furthest distance recorded by the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme for this species of bird to travel is 959km. The oldest bird recorded was recovered 6 years 8 months after being banded (information as at 14 June 2012).
