Harpobittacus similisCommon name: Common Western Scorpionfly
Distribution: Occurs in coastal areas of the southwest of Western Australia from Geraldton to Albany.
Description: Approximately 25 millimetres long.
Notes: Male scorpionflies offer gifts of food to females. While the female is feeding the male will attempt to mate with her.
We have photographed this species in August, September and October.
